General Electric Fault Codes

Failure codes are often the result of a faulty timer (ERC or Electronic Range Control). In some cases, the failure code could seem to indicate another problem when, in fact, it’s the timer to blame. Fortunately, we specialize in solving timer issues and we know just how to diagnose and repair these faults fast! Be sure to stay on top of any issue that you may encounter with your appliance by reviewing some of the General Electric fault codes below.

GE Range / Stove / Oven Fault Codes

  • Failure Code
  • Fault Code Description
  • Solution

F0 – Touch pad stuck

  • Normally either the touch pad or oven control (clock or ERC) is faulty and needs to be replaced. If you cannot cancel this fault code, replace the oven control (clock or ERC), touch pad, or both.

F1 – Touch pad stuck

  • Normally either the touch pad or oven control (clock or ERC) is faulty and needs to be replaced. If you cannot cancel this fault code, replace the oven control (clock or ERC), touch pad, or both.

F2 – (During BAKE) Control senses oven temperature is above 615F-630F

  • If an actual over temperature condition has occurred: Check for welded relay contacts on broil or bake relays. If this is this case, replace oven control (clock or ERC).
  • If no over temperature condition has occurred: Check for a high resistance connection or another cause of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit. Inspect the sensor, sensor harness and the sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. Replace sensor if faulty.

Remember: The oven control (ERC) measures resistance of sensor circuit, not the actual oven temperature.

F2 – (During CLEAN) Control senses oven temperature is above 915F-930F

  • If an actual over temperature condition occurred: Check for welded relay contacts. If this occurs, replace the oven control (clock or ERC).
  • If no over temperature condition has occurred: Check for a high resistance connection or another cause of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit. Check the sensor, sensor harness and the sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. Replace sensor if faulty. Check the door lock switches.

Remember: The oven control (ERC) measures resistance of sensor circuit , not the actual oven temperature.

F4 – Open or shorted oven temperature sensor (RTD)

  • Check the sensor harness and harness connection between oven sensor and oven control.
  • Replace the oven temperature sensor (RTD) if the wiring is ok.

F5 – Relay drive circuit loss

  • If this fault code cannot be cancelled, replace oven control (clock or ERC).

F8 – Meat probe short

  • Problem could be with the probe, receptacle or the probe circuit. Check the probe.
  • Check for a pinched wire.
  • Inspect for condensation or contamination on the probe receptacle.

F9 – Lock switch

  • Check the wiring to door lock switch (the wire harness could be connected wrong).
  • Check for a stuck lock switch.

FC – Door lock circuit problem such as pinched wires between door lock and control switches on motorized lock circuits

  • Check the wiring and test operation of switches.

FD – Meat probe shorted

  • Problem could be with the probe,  receptacle, the or probe circuit. Check the probe.
  • Check for pinched wire. Inspect for condensation or contamination on probe receptacle.
  • Replace probe if all else looks ok.

FF – Door motor safety switch loss

  • Replace oven control (also called clock or ERC).

FFF – Control error, failed EEPROM

  • Replace oven control board (also called clock or ERC).
  • The main control is responsible for operating a series of software commands, which control different features and functions of the oven. Each function or operation has a numerical value assigned to it. These numerical values can be added up and this is called the check sum operation. Each time the system is powered up and after every clean cycle, the system performs a check sum and compares the value to that programmed into the software (stored in memory).
  • An EEPROM check sum error or FFF code occurs when these two values differ. If this occurs, replace the oven control board (clock or ERC).
