Why you need to clean the lint trap on your dryer

Why you need to clean the lint trap on your dryer

When it comes to maintaining your dryer, lint is one thing that should never be ignored. The heat and the tumbling motion of the dryer cause various clothing items and linen to shed fibers. Without a lint screen, these fibers can end up inside the machine which can cause a malfunction or even a fire hazard. Fortunately, dryers have lint filters that are really easy to clean.

Why clean the lint filter on your dryer?

There are a number of advantages to keeping the lint trap clean, with the most significant being reduced risk of fire. Dryers operate at high temperatures which means that if lint builds up, it can easily result in a fire. Another advantage of keeping the filter clean is that your dryer will be more efficient and more effective. In other words, when lint accumulates, it will make the motor on your dryer work harder to dry each load. This will push your electric bills up. Similarly, when air can flow properly, it helps your laundry dry faster. Finally, you will also help prolong the life of your dryer which means that you will get much more use out of your dryer which means greater value for money.

How often does the lint trap need cleaning?

Since our days are extremely busy and we hardly have time for chores like laundry, it's easy to rush through important steps like cleaning the lint trap on your dryer. Some lint traps can be cleaned, and others need to be replaced every time. You should always check the lint trap every time before you start your dryer. It's good to get into a habit of checking every time. This way, there is never any doubt as to whether or not the lint has started to compromise your dryer.

Where is the lint trap?

If you're not sure about where to find the lint trap on your dryer, there are a few places you can look. Some filters are located inside the door. Open the door and take a look inside. There might be a small handle that you can pull up on and this will allow you to remove the filter. Another common location is on the back wall of the dryer. The cover can be removed by inserting your fingers in the holes and gently remove the cover. Alternatively, check the top right corner near the controls. Again, there should be a handle that allows you to remove the cover and gain access to the filter. Finally, don't forget to check for residue and, if necessary, soak the screen in hot soapy water and use a soft brush to clean away any stubborn grime.
